Paul later graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois, where he earned a RA. in Geography in 1971. During his university days, he was active evangelizing both Jews and Gentiles with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Upon graduation, Paul entered Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, finishing his M. Div. in 1974. In May 2001 Paul received his doctorate (Th. D.) from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida.
In August of 1973 the Lord guided Paul to a trip to Chihuahua, Mexico, where he met the one who is now his wife, Carmen Leticia Granados. The Lord led us together in love, and in August of
1974 the Lord united us in marriage in Redeemer Temple there. Leticia is a valuable member of the team for the ministry that the Lord gave us. Saved from Roman Catholicism, she brings great personal insights about dealing with other people and helps Paul relate to the lost. She is also an excellent mother and homemaker, a necessity with six children that the Lord has blessed us with.
The oldest of the children, John, is now married to Claudia Adams, and they have a daughter, Karina Michelle, who was born June 9, 2000 and another daughter, Daniela Giselle, born June 7, 2002. John graduated from Clearwater Christian College with a degree in accounting and now works for Assurant Group here in Miami. John has been with Paul and Leticia from the start in missions work. Born before they went to Mexico in 1979, he grew up there and is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Sandra arrived on the field in Mexico at ten months of age and grew up with the work there. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she has been a part of the team in Mexico, as well. Sandra graduated from Trinity International University here in Miami with a B.A. in elementary education, and currently teaches in a Christian school. David was born in Mexico during the Dunteman's ministry there. He has also contributed to the effort there in Mexico. David graduated from Westwood Christian High School in June 2000, and entered the Army reserve with training as an emergency medical technician. Now he works in an ambulance while he attends Florida International University in the pre-med curriculum.
Joshua was also born in Mexico during our time of ministry there. Joshua graduated from Johnson High School in June 2002. He is currently driving an ambulance while he plans a career in fire rescue. He is also fully bilingual.
The Dunteman’s youngest two sons are Daniel (20 years old) and Steven (19 years old). The parents are thankful that all of their children love the Lord and are following Him, adapting well to the difficulties they have faced. In addition they have led various classmates to the Lord over the years.
From November 1974 until November 1975 Paul and Leticia served a short term with a mission that was evangelizing Jews in Mexico and returned with a burden to continue ministering to Jews in that country. In the summer of 1976 Paul and Leticia entered the summer program of the AMP International (formerly the American Messianic Fellowship), under which they are still ministering.
Under the AMF International the Duntemans served from January 1979 until May 1992 founding their Mexico City branch. Starting from scratch, the Duntemans presented the work in Mexican churches, recruited and trained Mexican workers to evangelize the Jews as part of their local church's evangelism, and trained a group of Mexicans for leadership and left the work functioning well. At that time the Lord laid a burden on the Duntemans to minister in Miami, Florida. In this city the AMP International had had a very active outreach to the Jews until 1985, when a missionary couple resigned. Miami has a rather large population of the typical Ashkenazic Jews, as in the rest of the U.S., but also a large number of Sephardic Jews, coming in from Latin America along with the Gentiles from Latin America.
In early June 1992, the Duntemans returned from the Mexico City field, leaving the work in capable hands of a trained leadership. During the summer they presented the work in churches, and then arrived in Miami in order to begin the new work there just 12 days before Hurricane Andrew hit. The progress was slow for the rest of 1992 because most of the churches were repairing damage from the hurricane, instead of resuming normal activities. It has taken 1993 and 1994 for most churches to get back to normal and ready to reach out to others and work along with us.
As in the case of Mexico City, we are aiming at setting up a strong local leadership in Jewish evangelism from among the believers in the local churches. Should the Lord tarry and if we arrive at the point in which we believe that the local leadership can carry on well without us, we would be open to moving elsewhere and setting up the work again in the same way. This was our goal in Mexico when we went, and this will be our goal here in Miami.
Our current needs are for more believers to become interested in our training meetings, as well as in doing the evangelism. Also, we need more churches to work with us so that we may equip them to do their work of evangelism, insofar as they are encountering Jewish people. We have financial needs for the carrying out of our local ministry, and we work in churches entirely on a faith basis. We are praying that the Lord will raise up more individuals and churches to take a part in the financial burden of this ministry. We do not charge for any ministry, but we would appreciate a love offering, as the Lord leads.
If the Lord should lead you to share in the financial burden of this ministry, you may send a check payable to AMF International (formerly American Messianic Fellowship) designated for Duntemans.
