“Some may remember the years Vern and I worked in the Philippines planting churches, training leaders, teaching, encouraging and helping others,” Bonnie explains. “We prayed that those who came to faith in Christ would continue the work. Many have. Many have also trained in Bible schools and seminaries and have been extensively mentored by missionaries and other Christians.
There are faithful pastors, teachers and workers in the churches in the Philippines. Others have gone overseas to minister but have a very hard time raising financial support because of the difficult financial conditions in the Philippines. These are faithful men and women who want to teach others about Christ, and are willing to work hard in difficult places.”
Because of the great need for these individuals, Bonnie Carvey Ministries (BCM) was formed. It is a non-profit organization providing prayer and financial support to Nationals of Third World Nations, who are working in restricted or hard to reach areas, generally outside their home countries.
BCM is operated by a group of volunteers who are committed to the spread of the gospel through both conventional and non-conventional means. Bonnie Carvey, who spent 37 years with her husband as CBInternational (CBI) sponsored missionaries in the Philippines, heads the organization.
CBInternational in Denver, Colorado handles all contributions and disbursements for BCM. No funds are ever directly under the control of any of the volunteers working for BCM. All fund raising and volunteers pay administrative expenses of BCM. At this time, CBInternational is not charging for their financial, administrative and oversight services. Conservative Baptist Assoc. of the Philippines (CBAP) assesses a 5% overhead charge for some of the missionaries that BCM supports.
At the end of 2003, BCM was providing support to six couples and four singles for a total of $1,725 per month, which represented between 20 and 100 percent of their external support. These missionaries operate in a number of countries including China, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Muslims in the Philippines. They are involved in ministries ranging from individual evangelism and church planting to local pastor development and mentoring.
Additional workers have been called to various mission fields and are in the process of receiving training and raising financial support. Some of them are involved in decisions regarding new fields such as Pakistan and Indonesia.
New missionaries will be added to BCM’s support list as they are officially appointed by CBAP or other appropriate agencies, subject to the availability of funds and the approval of CBI.
Bonnie Carvey Ministries also provides financial support to persecuted Christian groups in Asia with whom the organization’s supported missionaries have ongoing contact. Because of the sensitive nature of these ministries, the information which BCM is able to provide is general so as not to compromise their effectiveness or personal safety.
“The purpose of Bonnie Carvey Ministries is to share some of the bountiful resources we have as Christians in the United States with third world workers. Frequently, they are able to minister in nations and cultures where Americans are not welcome. As a result, the gospel can reach further and deeper into a lost world. Surely, this is our goal.”
